The Chandonuśāsana is an important work of metrics (chandaḥśāstra). In addition to defining all of the standard Sanskrit verse forms, it also contains definitions of Sanskrit verse forms only used in the Deccan (such as mattebhavikrīḍita), as well as verse forms that are primarily used in Prakrit (like the galitakas) and Kannada (like the tripadī and akṣara).
