The Buddhacarita (BC) is a mahākāvya by Aśvaghoṣa. It describes the life of Buddha in 28 cantos (sarga-s). The first fourteen are available in Sanskrit, and the rest are only available in Tibetan and Chinese translation. The BC mentions Vālmiki, and many usages and expressions in the BC follow the style of the epic Rāmāyaṇa. Kāḷidāsa’s Kumārasaṁbhava in turn, echoes many expressions from the BC. The Cāṇakyanīti and Kāvyamīmāṁsā too have quotes from the BC.
