Along with his brother Ponnammayya, he served as a general under the Cālukya Taila II . Mallappa was a disciple of Jinacandra of the Kānūr gaṇa and commissioned the Śāntipurāṇam [SP] by Ponna in honour of the former. Mallappa’s daughter Attimabbe too was a philanthropist and commissioned a thousand copies of the SP, and was also the sponsor of Ranna’s Ajita‧tīrthaṅkara‧purāṇa‧tilakam.
