Story:
- The core of the British Library was originally the British Museum Library. Initially, its Asian manuscripts came with the abbreviation "OMPB" ("Oriental Manuscripts and Printed Books"), which was the name of the department at the old British Museum Library. Identifiers now include "Indic" as part of the shelfmark. The other main component of the British Library's Indian holdings is the old library of the India Office Library and Records ("IOLR") that was merged into the BL in 1982.
