Jacob Schmidt-Madsen

Data Curator in project: Zysk Copenhagen
Contribution to come.
I hold a BA, MA, and PhD in Indology from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and I am currently employed as a postdoctoral researcher at the same institution. My main field of research is the popular culture of ancient, medieval, and early modern India and the simplified yet poignant ways in which it engages with complex ideas of social, religious, and political import. I have primarily studied popular culture as expressed through narrative literature and games, but related media, such as dance, music, theater, and storytelling, also form part of my research interests. I work with both textual and visual sources, and draw heavily on fieldwork experiences and an extensive network of private art collectors both inside and outside India.
