Vedavyāsa is the author of the Mahābhārata (MB), as well as a character in it. His son Śuka is the poet of the Bhāgavata-purāṇa. His disciple Vaiśampāyana is the narrator of the outermost frame-story of the MB. Another disciple Jaimini is the author of the Jaiminīya Āśvamedhika Parvan – a later appendix to the MB narrative.
